The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) is an Autonomous Organisation attached to the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality. It is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of food safety and for promoting public health. It works to:
Reduce the risk of foodborne diseases.
Ensure that food control systems are effective.
Promote healthy eating and provide access to, and information about, healthy food.
Plan, coordinate and implement health information, education and promotion strategies and interventions in the field of nutrition and, above all, in the prevention of obesity.
